Step # 1: Check out the Legal Requirements
Before building the shed, you need to find out if there are any legal permits required associated with shed building in your state or city. You might also need to understand the legalities of building the different types and sizes of sheds.
Step # 2: Choose a Type of Shed to Build
There are quite a few type of sheds you can build. However, here are the three most popular types that you can go for:

Lean-to Sheds: Lean-to sheds are usually small to medium sized sheds that are attached to a wall of your garden or yard, which is why they are called ‘lean to’ sheds. These sheds are perfect to store tools and supplies.

Gable Sheds: Gable sheds are the most popular type of sheds. The gable roof is easy to build and can last for a lifetime if built well. Gable sheds can also be scaled to any size.

Hip-Roof Sheds: Hip-roof sheds come with a hip styled roof, hence the name hip-roof sheds. Hip roofs are a bit complicated to build compared to gable roofs, which is why you should only put that much effort into building it if you want a huge shed in your yard. Nevertheless, hip roof sheds are quite exquisite.
Step # 3: Collecting the Required Tools & Materials
Now that you know the type of sheds you can build, it’s time to start collecting the materials and tools required to build a 6×6 lean-to shed. Step # 4: Get to Know the Dimensions of Your Shed
This 6×6 lean-to shed is 9 feet high and 6 feet wide with 6 feet and 1 inch of depth. The shed is equipped with a single door. You can add a window to the shed as well if you want to.
Step # 5: Start Building the Foundation & Add Flooring
Now that we have the tools and dimensions, let’s start building. The first step to build any shed is to build the foundation. This is a crucial step as the foundation needs to be extremely robust and sturdy. You will use pressure treated timber to build the joists for the foundation. Attach the joists together with 3.5 inches galvanized nails. Once the foundation skeleton is in place, use tongue and groove plywood for flooring.

Build the foundation where you want to place the shed otherwise you will have to relocate the structure later on.

Clear the area of any clutter or plantation before starting the building process.
Step # 6: Build & Attach the Walls on the Foundation
Once the foundation is in place, the next step is to build the front, left and right walls. The overall height of the left and right wall would be 6 feet and 7 ½ inches. You will use pressure treated timber to build the walls and galvanized nails to attach them together.
Important Tips:

Use temporary brackets to erect the walls on the foundation. If the sizing is perfect, attach the walls on the foundation with galvanized nails and remove the brackets.

Cut out space for the single door. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to install the door in place.

Use a good quality siding on the walls to make them more presentable and secure from moisture.
Step # 7: Build the Roof and Add Shingles
Now we come to the most complicated part of any shed building plan; the roof. You will start with building the roof rafters with pressure treated timber. Once the rafters are built, attach them together using galvanized nails. Use a high quality OSB sheathing on the skeleton of the roof.
Once built, you will then add asphalt shingles on the roof. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to add the shingles on the skeleton of the roof.

You can use any type of shingles you want but we highly recommend using asphalt shingles as they are the most durable ones.
Step # 8: Adding Finishing Touches
Now that your shed is almost ready, you will add some finishing to it such as adding a waterproof layer on the floor and the like.

We recommend using a high quality weather resistant paint or wood stain on the shed to keep it safe from extreme weather conditions.

If you are planning on installing electrical wires, make sure the shed is insulated well to avoid any accidents.
