How to Build a 4×10 Lean to Shed in a Week or Less?
Building a shed all by yourself might seem like the toughest job in the world. But, believe us, this is not the case. Most of us hardly have any experience in woodworking, which naturally is a factor to scare us away when it comes to building a shed. However, the good news is that we are here to help you out!

Step # 1: Finding Out the Legal Requirements in Your Locale
The first step of any building job is to find out if there are any required permits in your state. In this case, you need to find out if your state, locale or city requires a certain permit to build a shed on your property or are there any permits required in accordance with the type of sheds and size of sheds you are going to build.
Step # 2: Decide the Type of Shed You Want to Build:
This is an important step. You need to know the type of sheds you can build:

Lean-to Sheds: As the name suggests, these sheds lean against a wall in your yard or garden. They are not standalone sheds. These sheds are best if they are small or mid-sized. They are mainly used for storing supplies and tools.

Gable Sheds: Gable sheds are the most popular type of sheds around. They get the name due to the gable roof that is installed. Yes, they are standalone sheds and are suitable for almost any size.

Hip-Roof Sheds: Probably the toughest but the most exquisite shed type. With the hip-roof, these sheds look stunning. Due to the amount of work required in these sheds, we suggests only to go for these if you want a large size shed.
Step # 3: Get the Tools & Materials:
It’s time to shop for your project! For the 4×10 lean to shed, you would need basic tools such as hammer, saw, measuring tape, nails, and the like. Materials would include pressure treated timber, tongue & groove plywood and windows and doors. However, we do recommend buying one of our PREMIUM shed plan to get a complete list of the materials and tools you would require to get the job done.
Step # 4: Understand the Dimensions of the 4×10 Lean to Shed:
Now that we have the materials and the tools, it’s time to get real! Your 4×10 lean to shed plan would be 10 feet in height and 4 feet in width. The shed will consist of a single door of 2 feet and 6 inches.
Step # 5: Starting with the Foundation:
The foundation is the most crucial part of your shed since it will hold the entire weight of the structure. Therefore, you need to be careful to build a solid and firm foundation. Use pressure treated timber for the foundation. The measurements of the foundation should be 10 feet in length and 4 feet in width. Use galvanized nails to attach the parts together. Once the foundation is built, use tongue and groove plywood for the flooring.
A Few Pointers:

Make sure to build the foundation in an area where you would like to have the shed. It would be difficult to move the foundation later on.

Make sure to remove any clutter, mud, moisture and vegetation from the surface before placing the foundation.
Step # 6: Building & Fixing the Walls:
Now that we have the foundation ready, it’s time to build the walls and attach them to the foundation. The height of the walls should be 6 feet and 7 ½ inches with a width of 3 feet and 5 ½ inches. Use pressure treated timber to build the walls and cut out area for the door and window.

Once the walls are ready, use temporary brackets to place the walls on the foundation before permanently attaching them with 3.5 inches galvanized nails.

Use a good quality siding on the walls to keep them protected and give them a professional appeal.
Step # 7: Building and Setting up the Roof:
While the roof may seem like the toughest part to construct, if you follow our plans, it would be a breeze. To start with, you will build roof rafters from pressure treated timber. Use the rafters to create a foundation for the roof. Then, apply OSB sheathing and felt on the roof foundation before installing asphalt shingles.

Building the roof is a complicated process. Make sure you have followed the measurements perfectly.
Step # 9: Finishing the Shed

Once you have installed the shingles, you can now install the trims, fascia boards and soffits to the roof.

Use high quality paint to create a coating for your shed walls.

You can use plasterboard to make separate rooms or cabinets in the shed.
