Step # 1: Inquire about the Legal Permits in Your State
Initially, you will start off with finding out the legal requirements of shed building in your state, city or locale. Permits could be associated with the type or size of shed you want to build. If there are any permits, follow the procedure. If there are not, well then jump onto the next step!
Step # 2: Figure out the Type & Size of Shed You Want to Build
The next step is to understand the different type of sheds that you can easily build for yourself:

Lean to Sheds: As the name suggests, these sheds lean to one of the walls of your lawn or house. They are usually small to medium sized sheds, with the capacity of holding tools, supplies, etc.

Hip-Roof Sheds: Probably the most exquisite type of shed you can build, the hip-roof shed has a ‘hip’ roof, which is a bit complicated to build compared to a gable roof. We only suggest to build these sheds if you are looking for a large size sheds for your lawn.
Step # 3: Start Gathering the Materials:
Once you know the type of shed you are building, the next step is to collect the tools and materials you would need to build the shed. Get common tools such as hammers, nails, drill machines, saws and the like. Step # 3: Gather the Materials & Tools
Now that you know about the legal requirements and the types of sheds, let’s get the materials and tools you would need to build a 14×20 lean to shed. You would mainly require tools such as hammers, nails, drilling machine, saw, measuring tape and the like. Step # 4: Learning the Dimensions of Your 14×14 Lean to Shed:
Now that you have the materials, let’s get down to business! Before building, you need to know the measurements of the different areas of the sheds. This shed comes with a 14 feet wide base and a height of 9 feet and 4 inches. The top width including the roof is 14 feet and 7 inches.
Step # 5: Starting with the Foundation & Flooring:
The first step of building any shed is to build a solid foundation. The foundation will hold the weight of the entire structure so it is important for it to stable. You will use pressure treated timber to build the rims and joists for the foundation. Nail them using galvanized nails. Use tongue and groove plywood for the flooring once the foundations skeleton is ready.
Important Notes:

Make sure you build the foundation where you want to place the shed. You don’t want to lift the heavy structure and place it elsewhere after you have built it.

Make sure you clear the area of any debris, clutter and plantation, for the foundation to have steady ground.
Step # 6: Building the Front, Left & Right Walls
Once you have the foundation ready, the next step of building the walls is fairly simple. You will use pressure treated timber to build the studs, cripple studs, trimmer studs and headers. The right wall should be simply timber studs whereas the left wall will have space for two windows.
Important Notes:

Use temporary brackets to erect the walls on the foundation. Once perfectly placed, attach the walls to the floor using galvanized nails and remove the brackets.

Use T1-11 siding on the walls to keep them secure from harsh weather conditions.

Leave space for the door and windows as per your requirements. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to install the window and doors.
Step # 7: Building the Roofs & Laying the Shingles
Now that you have the foundation and walls ready, you will start working on the roof. For most woodworkers, building the roof is the most complicated part of the shed building routine. But, if you follow our instructions, it will be easier than ever.
You will use pressure treated timber to build the roof rafters and join them together using galvanized nails. Once done, the next step is to lay the fascia and OSB sheeting on the skeleton. This will complete the skeleton of your roof. Now, you need to lay down the asphalt shingles to finish the roof.

You can use any type of shingles you like but we prefer going with asphalt shingles as they are durable and cost effective.
Step # 8: Finish the Shed with these Tips:
Your 14×14 lean to shed is almost ready. All you need to do now is add some finishing touches to keep your shed safe and sounds:

Add a coating of paint or wood stain to keep the timber safe from moisture or dryness.

If you are planning to add electrical wires to the shed, make sure to insulate it properly.
